Understanding the Rep commitment
Rep baseball is a year-round commitment. Exact schedules and team plans vary, but families should be prepared for the following.
Families can generally expect two games and one to two practices each week during the season.
Most teams begin once-weekly indoor training in mid-to-late November, increasing to twice weekly from mid-January through April.
Some teams also include dryland strength, conditioning or agility sessions at a gym or with a private trainer.
League travel is throughout Niagara and may include Beamsville, Grimsby, Pelham, St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Fort Erie, Welland, Mahoney in Hamilton and Caledonia.
Teams usually attend at least two away tournaments and one home tournament, and aim to attend the OBA Championships. Some trips require hotels and, rarely, a Thursday arrival for an early Friday game.
Each team will operate with a set budget and is expected to fundraise during the season.
OBA Championships are normally held on Labour Day weekend for every division except 9U and 18U.

Know what you need before tryouts
If you live outside Thorold, currently play Rep for another centre, or previously played in Thorold with a release, use the dropdown below to confirm what paperwork you need. If your home centre offers a 2027 Rep team for your player’s age group, you must obtain a release before trying out. Thorold Baseball cannot request it for you.

Your existing release carries forward
If you are currently on a 2026 Thorold Rep team and had a release, no further action is required for 2027 tryouts.

How to request a release
- Email the home centre based on your current address.
- State that your player intends to try out for Thorold and is requesting a release.
- Include a brief reason for the request.
- Ask for a response before Thorold’s tryouts.
Frequently asked questions
What happens after I submit the form?
Your player is added to our 2027 Rep tryout list. There will not be another registration form. The schedule is now available using the button at the top of this hub, and everyone on the list will also be contacted directly.
Does every listed division get a team?
Not automatically. A team may be combined or not offered based on player numbers, competitive level, available coaches and the best development fit for players.
Should my player attend every tryout?
Yes, whenever possible. Multiple sessions give evaluators the best opportunity to assess skills, effort, decision-making and coachability. Let the association know in advance about an unavoidable conflict.
Who evaluates the players during tryouts?
Players are evaluated by the team’s head coach, members of our other Rep coaching staffs, sometimes Board members and unaffiliated evaluators.
What should my player bring?
Baseball glove, helmet, bat if available, protective equipment, appropriate footwear and water. Catchers should bring their gear when possible.
What are evaluators looking for?
Baseball skill matters, but so do effort, athleticism, game awareness, coachability, competitiveness and how a player responds to both success and adversity.
